Darlene is from St. Paul Minnesota and is fighting breast cancer, after a routine mammogram earlier this year, she has since had a lumpectomy, radiation therapy and at present under hormonal therapy. Darlene employed as a cafeteria cook At Highland Elementary was unable to return to school for the school year due to deliberating pain in her right shoulder and advisory of her doctors. Beth Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer and has metastasis to the bone. Michele Jenkins, nominated by Heather Morse, was a TRUE TEAL WARRIOR! Sadly, Michelle passed away before this posting, but she fought the fight against Ovarian Cancer for four years and seven months. Tonya Harris of Minneapolis,Minnesota is 47 years young battling cervical cancer and lung cancer stage IV. She completed her chemo August 3 and now will have radiation followed by surgery to remove a nodule on her lung. At present Tonya is homeless and living at a shelter, to have a place where she can rest after treatment. She is working at McDonalds on weekends and is waiting to get approval to move to an apartment. Tonya does enjoy cooking, cleaning and likes to sing! Marisa Carson of Chanhassen,Minnesota is 46 years young was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer. She had her mastectomy in January 2016, reconstructive surgery April 2016 and started chemotherapy in June 2016. She is continuing oral chemo and physical therapy through September 2016. At present is living with her sister in an unstable housing situation. She has exhausted all grants available to her both locally and almost nationally. She had been working very hard to find financial assistance. She has been unable to work due to the pain and discomfort of her reconstruction surgery. Maribel Perez, of Cape Coral Florida was diagnosed with Breast Cancer stage IV Earlier this year after discovering a lump in her breast. Maribel is currently on Chemotherapy and will continue with radiation. She plans to have surgery if the tumor doesn’t shrink through treatment. The Perez family have been married for twenty-four years, both are from Puerto Rico, and moved to southwest Florida from Chicago where they both met. Nicole Canfield, from Hewitt Minnesota, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage III in February of this year. Her symptoms started out with extreme abdominal pain, and even more so when her little dog jumped on her lap! After a CT scan and ultra-sound, a mass was found the size of a basketball on her right ovary, she had a total hysterectomy, spent a week in the hospital, and a second mass was found the size of a softball on her left ovary during surgery. Nicole will continue her chemo until September (18 weeks) at Minnesota Oncology in Maplewood, Mn. Nicole tells us her Dad is her #1 supporter, as he accompany her each week for her treatment as they travel over 300 miles round trip. Nicole loves the outdoors! Debbie Dressen of Carver, Minnesota is 60 years young, diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in October 2015. She was nominated by Marilyn Gitter-Moriarty. October 5 was her first day of starting a new job, she received a phone call around noon that day that results had come back from her routine mammogram with a diagnosis of this very aggressive and hardest to treat type of breast cancer. Being new to her employment, she had no sick leave and too early to qualify for short term disability. She started chemo immediately. She will be having surgery sometime in April 2016. Debbie has two sons Ryan and Paul, a daughter Kim, and loves being Grandma to her three grandchildren, Debbie also plays handbells in her church choir and belongs to a book club. Last summer Anna went in for her annual physical, a cyst was found in her breast and at that time an ultrasound was ordered more testing. During the ultrasound the tech consulted with the Radiologist who ordered a mammogram, then a biopsy. They determined that it was most likely cancer but that the biopsy would confirm…….received call next day that it was in fact IDC. Anna is 30 years young, has no siblings, her mother died at age 5……but she did inform us that her Dad is absolutely her best friend, been by her side every minute and continues to be so positive through her cancer journey. Since wrapping up Chemo in December (best Christmas present, EVER) she is now preparing for her double mastectomy February 23, 2016. Caitlin was diagnosed Summer of 2015 with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Stage IV. She has handled her diagnosis with Strength, Grace,and manages to flash her bright smile everyday!
